Certified Irrigation Design Consultants Inc. (CIDC)

has a new name …

Blu-Gold Consulting Inc. (BGC).

Water, our most precious natural resource, is often referred to as ‘Blue Gold’. Therefore our new name better illustrates our ongoing commitment to conserve water as it is used in landscape applications.

Almost from the beginning our clients have asked us to provide rain water, storm water and grey water harvesting and treatment system designs and consulting services.  We responded to these requests and have designed several irrigation systems that have incorporated rain, storm and grey water.  In 2010 our company was honoured by the City of Edmonton with an ELM Award for Construction Innovation for our work with storm water at the Multi-Sport Tournament and Recreation Site project.

Irrigation system design and consulting will continue to be the central component of the services provided by BLU-GOLD Consulting Inc.

  • Construction Specs & Docs

The question is sometimes asked, “What is the difference between ‘specification’ and ‘construction’ documents?

The answer is – a ‘specification’ document is used to describe the rules and standards by which any irrigation or water harvesting system design is to be based. This document may contain sample drawings to illustrate specific design requirements.

  • Master Site Plan Development

Large projects such as commercial or industrial campuses, retirement complexes and parks are often installed in phases over several months or years. The irrigation system(s) for large or complex projects must also be installed in phases.

  • System Life Cycle Analysis

All mechanical systems have a certain life expectancy and irrigation and water harvesting systems are no exception. The real cost of an irrigation or water harvesting system is not simply what you pay to have it designed and installed. The real cost of an irrigation or water harvesting system is the design and installation expenses plus the on-going maintenance cost over the expected life of the system(s).

  • System Layout

Use our 30 years of experience in laying out irrigation systems for commercial, institutional, athletic field and residential applications based on a BGC design or one you provide.

Using a copy of the irrigation system design we mark the location of the components including but not limited to: Controller(s), Wiring, Sensor(s), Pump system components, Water treatment system components, Pipe routing, Valve boxes and reach wells and Sleeve(s).

  • As-Built Drawings

Even the best irrigation and water harvesting system cannot allow for every possible unforeseen complication, small or large, that may arise during the system installation. A BGC as-built drawing shows where the components of an irrigation or water harvesting system were actually installed making it easier for maintenance personnel to locate and maintain system components.

  • Site Analysis

BGC offers several services to aid in designing the best possible irrigation or water harvesting system for your site.

    What we do:

Soil Sampling – gathering soil core samples, using a collection probe, from across your site so we can learn the soil structure and texture. Using this information we can make an informed decision on the best way(s) to irrigate your landscape.

  • Rain Harvesting System Design

Rain water, storm water and grey/captured water are being considered more frequently as potential alternative water sources for irrigation systems.

At BGC we have the skills and experience to design harvesting systems to capture, store and distribute water from alternative water sources to meet the requirements of your site(s).

  • Treatment System Design

Rain water and storm ponds are being considered more frequently as potential alternative water sources for irrigation systems. These sources do not supply potable water so filtration and/or treatment will be necessary before the water can be used according to government regulations.

At BGC we have the skills and experience to design a treatment system for water collected from alternative water sources to meet the requirements of your site(s) and to satisfy government regulations.
